The subject property is located at the South-Western tip of Penang island. However it faces the east, that is it faces Batu Maung and the mainland. During the tsunami of December 2004, it was sheltered by the mountain ridge at the back of the land. This is the entrance to the small fishing village of Gertak Sanggul. As the village is situated in a lagoon between the South-Western tip and the South-Eastern tip of Penang island, the Chinese name of this village is literally "Beautiful Lake".
